What You Will Need

  • 1/2 yard of 2 or 4 way stretch fabric
  • Optional front lining with the same stretch
  • Matching Thread
  • Home sewing machine with a stretch stitch
  • Overlock machine / zig-zag stitch on a regular sewing machine

Pattern Assembly

  1. Serger stitch or straight stitch the back seam of  (2) with right sides facing each other
  2. Pin the optional lining t0 the inside of shorts front (1) The lining should have the same stretch as the fabric you choose for (1) This will make it easier to work with
  3. Overlock together both sides of optional lining and front (1) to back (2)
  4.  Serger stitch or straight stitch the crotch of shorts (1) & (2) together
  5. Sew both short sides of the  4” wide waistband front and back (3) together with right sides of fabric together using a serger or straight stitch
  6. Fold the 4” waistband (3) in half the long way  (measurements are listed on sewing pattern)
  7. Pin the folded band seams (3) to the right side of fabric of  (1) & (2) side seams
  8. Sew the waistband (3) raw edge to raw edge of the shorts (1) & (2) with the seam on the right side of the fabric. Using a stretch stitch (overlock machine is recommended) Pull on the waistband  as you sew. The waistband will be smaller than the upper short
  9. You can finish the waistband serger stitch by sewing over it with a cover stitch or zigzag stitch for a more finished look (this is an optional step)
  10. Sew short ends of both 2” wide leg bands (4) together separately with right sides of fabric together using a serger or straight stitch
  11. Fold both the 2” leg bands (4) in half the long way to create two folded circles (measurements are listed on sewing pattern)
  12. Pin both the folded leg band seams (4) to the right side of fabric of  (1) & (2) leg hole seams
  13. Sew both leg hole bands (4) raw edge to raw edge of the shorts (1) & (2)  leg holes on the right side of fabric. Using a stretch stitch (overlock machine is recommended) Pull slightly on both leg bands as you sew to make sure it lines up with the upper shorts of (1) & (2)
  14. You can finish the leg hole serger stitch by sewing over it with a cover stitch or zigzag stitch for a more finished look (this is an optional step)
